After trying nearly every smash burger in the greater LA area, we (Noah Zaret and Dylan Walsh) set out to combine our favorite elements into burgers that felt familiar yet distinctive. We started Sunset Smash during our summer break from college in 2023. What began as a passion project to fill the smash burger void on the Westside of Los Angeles quickly catapulted into a full-time burger operation.

We started as a pop-up tent and grill on Sunset Boulevard in Pacific Palisades. Over our first three months, support from the local community and beyond created major hype around the burgers firing from our measly 36-inch flat top.

On the final day of our first summer, our mentor and close friend Rudy Barrientos of Gracias Señor graciously lent us his food truck for the day. It became our busiest service day and confirmed our vision for Sunset Smash.

We reinvested all earnings from that summer into building our own food truck. After planning throughout the school year, we transitioned from a tent setup into a fully equipped kitchen on wheels. Over the following months, we refined our operations and focused on what made Sunset Smash special.

When the fires hit, the two of us lost our homes, as did our food truck. After donating approximately 1,000 free meals to first responders in the week proceeding the fire, we relocated to Brentwood, where we remain today. When we're not in Brentwood, you can catch us catering all around the city, anywhere from weddings and high-profile events to backyard birthdays.

Now approaching our third year of service, Sunset Smash remains grounded to its roots: quality ingredients, consistency, and of course, flavor.
